FANS CONDEMN LUCAS’ INCLUSION AGAINST EVERTON

Liverpool fans took to social media to blast Coach Jurgen Klopp for his inclusion of Brazilian defender Lucas Leiva in the game against Everton in the Premier League.

The experienced player featured as a substitute in the last three league matches for The Reds.

However, following the injury to Three Lions forward Adam Lallana, Klopp had to bring in the 30-year old defender. Leiva featured alongside Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum. Many condemned the performance of Leiva in the Merseyside derby.

There have been calls for Klopp to strengthen the team during the summer as injuries affected the overall performance of the team this term.

Lucas joined Liverpool a decade ago from Gremio but he has dropped in the pecking order and his performance and confidence has taken a beating. This season’s 24 matches makes a total of 338 for the player. He barely touched the ball in his one-minute appearance against Everton in December and he has been the subject of speculations to exit the club this summer.

Former Man United skipper Gary Neville taunted the player after Leiva’s display against the Toffees. He actually hit out at Leiva and Can – the two holding midfielders in the game. Neville choose to praise the goal scorers Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho.

“Can and Lucas won’t do anything. Give them the ball 50 years away and they won’t hurt you. It’s Firmino, Coutinho who will hurt you. They’re the ones you need to worry about,” Neville opined.
The 3-1 victory helped Liverpool to third place in the standings. They still have to battle Man United and Arsenal for a spot in the top four as Chelsea, Spurs and Man City seem pretty settled as the season winds down.
